What is MonaLisa Touch?
MonaLisa Touch is a fast, safe and painless treatment to promote vaginal revitalization in postmenopausal women suffering from vaginal atrophy, dryness, and incontinence.
How does MonaLisa Touch work?
MonaLisa Touch is a “fractional CO2 laser” treatment applied using an intra-vaginal wand. The laser delivers a specially-designed pulse that can penetrate deep into the vaginal tissue. Simply put, this stimulates collagen production which improves moisture levels and increases blood supply to vaginal tissues.
In case that was too simple, here’s a more clinical explanation: “CO2 Laser DOT’s acts on atrophic vaginal mucosa reactivating the fibroblasts, collagen fibre and restoring hydration and nourishment. The restored cell trophism stimulates mucosa regeneration and tightening, like in a premenopausal condition.”
What does MonaLisa Touch feel like?
MonaLisa Touch is a virtually painless procedure. Most patients describe the treatment as similar to inserting a tampon or speculum during a routine Pap smear, and no more or less painful. It can be a bit cold, and you should expect a slight vibrating sensation as well.
Does MonaLisa Touch require anesthesia or painkillers?
No. MonaLisa Touch is non-invasive, so you won’t need any anesthesia during your treatment sessions. On top of that, in the vast majority of cases there’s no need to take any prescription pain medication after being treated.
How many MonaLisa Touch treatments will I need?

How long does it take to recover from MonaLisa Touch?
Many patients return to their normal activities immediately after treatment, though you may experience a slight, localized discomfort for a day or so after and recommend you avoid strenuous physical activity during this period. We also offer all of our patients a personalized post-procedure regimen.
How soon can I have sex after MonaLisa Touch?
You should refrain from sexual activity for 2 to 3 days following each MonaLisa Touch treatment.
Risks of MonaLisa Touch
Is the MonaLisa Touch laser safe?
Yes. The laser used for MonaLisa Touch is the same type of laser technology used in many facial “rejuvenation procedures” performed by dermatologists and plastic surgeons, so it has already been studied extensively and deemed safe for sensitive parts of the body.
Are there any risks associated with MonaLisa Touch?
While MonaLisa Touch is FDA approved and generally very safe, there are some minimal risks that include temporary side effects such as localized discomfort, or slight redness or swelling.
Has MonaLisa Touch been clinically studied?
Yes. A multisite study was conducted by two leading Urogynecologists who are experts in the field of postmenopausal gynecologic health; Dr. Mickey Karram, Director of Fellowship Program on Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, OH and Dr. Eric Sokol, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Stanford University Medical Center.
